Guiding Healthy Choices (5,000 adults & 400 teens/2009)

A 10-year drug prevention initiative to reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among Georgetown youth ages 12-17 by providing tools for parents and skills for kids.  GHC activities include:

§     Parent Awareness Campaign supports 5,000 middle school and high school parents with common-sense ways to communicate with teens about drugs, friends, boundaries, consequences, tolerance, and making healthy choices for themselves.

§     Community Awareness Campaign reinforces the parent awareness at the community level through local media and community presentations that provide a consistent message.

§     G-TEAM (Georgetown Teens Engaged & Motivated) provides a diverse set of positive intergenerational and drug-free activities for  Georgetown teens, offered monthly in partnership with the City of Georgetown at the Teen Center

§      Youth Leadership Development builds diversity, tolerance and interpersonal skills in Georgetown teens. Summits connect youth and adults from the community in dialogue about challenges facing young people in Georgetown and unique opportunities for solutions. Youth involved in TGP’s Youth Action Council were the catalyst in passage of a large bond package to create a Teen Center, and they inspired a community to mobilize in support of homeless youth.
